Iosif Zhakevich joined The Master’s Seminary faculty in 2016. Born in the former USSR, he along with his family immigrated to the USA and settled in Los Angeles, where he grew up and was a part of Grace Community Church since 1990. While at Harvard pursuing his Ph.D., he taught courses in Biblical Hebrew, Biblical Aramaic, and Rabbinic Aramaic. Throughout the years of his academic studies, he served with the Friends of Israel as a representative and a volunteer for nearly ten years, both in the USA and in Israel. His current research focuses on the rabbinic interpretation of the Hebrew Bible, particularly as expressed in the Aramaic translations known as the Targumim. His teaching interests include exegesis of various books of the Hebrew Bible, Jewish interpretation of the Hebrew Bible, Hebrew Grammar, and Aramaic Grammar.
