B.A. University of Cincinnati
M.Div., The Master’s Seminary
Th.M., The Master’s Seminary
D.Min., The Master’s Seminary

Dr. Hargrove grew up in Orlando, Florida as the youngest of eight children. He professed Christ at 12, but it became apparent in college that he didn’t know the Lord. In part, he made the profession because he knew that it was what his mother would have wanted (she died when he was seven). As the years passed, Dr. Hargrove’s life reflected less of a genuine Christian life. He still knew the language but lived a life of contradiction. The Lord led people to him in college that were instrumental in coming to genuine faith. He went to college on a football scholarship with the hopes of making a career in the military. The Lord closed doors and placed a desire for ministry in his heart.

After graduation, Dr. Hargrove returned to Florida and eventually discovered the ministry of John MacArthur and TMS. He came to TMS in 1989, was ordained by GCC, sent out (1993) and pastored for 21 years in the Los Angeles area before returning to GCC in 2014.

Dr. Hargrove met his wife at GCC. He and Joanna are blessed with five kids (ages 15-24).

More about Dr. Hargrove

What book of the Bible passage is your favorite, why?

It’s hard to decide between Isaiah and John. The beauty of Isiah’s language and the images of God and John’s profound simplicity with its connections to Isaiah are my favorites. I love all the “I am” statements of Isaiah and John set against the Suffering Servant passages.

What is your favorite type of food?

I enjoy Thai, Mediterranean, and Créole.

Any random facts you could share with us?

HIIT is the best approach to maximize your return on exercise. My dad was an Army Airborne Ranger. Reading your Bible in 90 days in a great way to grasp the contexts of Scripture.

What kind of hobbies and interests do you have?

Golf, World War II Events, Martial Arts.

What is your favorite childhood memory?

Vacations with my Dad at Daytona Beach & Miami and playing football for my HS in Orlando.

When your life is over, what you present to God will be determined by how you chose to walk in wisdom before a dying and needy world. May we all, as Paul says, make the “best use of the time” by walking wisely in the world as lights in the midst of darkness.
