The following announcement was released by the Navy Chief of Chaplains regarding the recognition of TMS graduate, John Eastman (M.Div., 2004).

"The Navy Chief of Chaplains is pleased to announce that LT John Eastman, School Chaplain for Marine Corps Engineer School, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina is the designated 2007 Witherspoon Award recipient.

"The Witherspoon Award is is named for Chaplain Maurice Witherspoon who served in WWI and WWII.  The criteria includes demonstrating a unique commitment to Bible reading and life application. Please know that each of our nominees far exceeded the criteria.

" ... Admiral Burt is so proud to have learned of the tremendous stories of life changing ministry to our Sea Service personnel and their families that were told in each package.  The selection board was moved to pray a prayer of thanksgiving in response to reviewing such significant reports of ministry being done throughout the fleet. Let us join in celebrating the rich opportunity Navy chaplains have to make a profound difference right where we are.  Let us also celebrate the opportunity for Chaplain Eastman and his family to represent all of us at this year's NBA celebration during their gala week in New York City in November."
