FINANCIAL AID & SCHOLARSHIPS

TMS Grants and Scholarships

Scholarships and tuition grants come through the sacrificial gifts provided by friends of TMS. As it is, tuition covers only slightly more than half of the cost of running the seminary, so each student automatically receives a "significant scholarship" due to reduced tuition. In addition, a number of scholarships are available to full-time students who have additional financial need. Applications are available in the Administration Office. Applicants should be enrolled in at least 11.5 semester credit hours.

To encourage students to seek assistance from their home churches, the Matching Funds scholarship is available. See Matching Funds Scholarship below.

Tuition Scholarship Funds
Assistance with tuition and student fees available on a needs basis.

Timothy Fund
Student and family assistance is available on a needs basis.

Matching Funds Scholarship
Assistance from your home church does more than help meet the budget—it provides an accountability for the student and a prayer commitment by the church. Consequently, applicants are encouraged to discuss financial assistance possibilities with their pastor and church leadership. Then, as the Lord provides, TMS will match one dollar for every three dollars given by your church, up to a total of $400 from TMS each semester.

John R. Dunkin Memorial Scholarship
An $8000 scholarship is awarded annually to a Bible major senior newly graduated from The Master’s College. Consideration is automatically given to all Bible majors who have been accepted into the seminary, with the selection made by the college’s Bible department faculty.

Professors Scholarship
A student or students selected by their peers and affirmed by the faculty are chosen for this $1200 scholarship based on their servant-leadership to the student body.

Wayne Mack Scholarship
An annual $4000 scholarship is granted to a graduate of the Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling program at The Master’s College. Consideration is automatically given to all MABC students who have been accepted into the seminary, with the selection made by the college’s MABC faculty.

Charles R. Smith Memorial Scholarship
In honor of Dr. Charles R. Smith, the seminary’s first dean, a $500 scholarship is awarded to first semester students who completed their undergraduate degree at The Master’s College.

Academic Scholarships
A very limited number of students who have demonstrated a high level of scholarship are considered for Teaching Assistantships while pursuing post-graduate studies at the seminary. Application for this position is made in person to the Dean or the Vice President for Academic Administration.

Christian Worker’s Scholarship Fund
A $3,500 scholarship is awarded annually to three students who demonstrate financial need, spiritual maturity in character, and an active involvement in a local church ministry. Because of the time required to assess an applicant’s qualifications, this scholarship is generally limited to students who have completed one full year of M.Div. studies at TMS. An annual written review and pastoral recommendation are required.

Gates Family Scholarship
A limited number of scholarships are available for students pursuing the Doctor of Theology degree. Based on need, this scholarship is primarily for doctoral candidates in residence.

Veterans Educational Assistance
TMS has been approved for the training of veterans and eligible persons under the provision of Title 38, United States Code. Please contact the registrar (at gjohnson@masters.edu) for more information or to apply. An original or certified copy of release papers will be needed.

The Next Step is Yours

You are expected to raise as much of your support as possible. Most students finance their education from several sources:

Personal and Family Assets
Consider what you and your family can invest from savings and other resources to help you fulfill God’s call.

Off-campus Employment
Like the apostle Paul, most seminarians support themselves through various types of employment. The greater Los Angeles area provides many employment opportunities, both in the secular and church-related areas. First year students usually work with the Director of Admissions and the Director of Career Services to find a job in the area.

On-campus Employment
When possible, TMS reserves its part-time and full-time positions for students and/or their wives. Similar positions are sometimes available at Grace Community Church, with whom TMS shares its campus.

Home Church Assistance
Assistance from your home church does more than help meet the budget—it provides an accountability for the student and a prayer commitment by the church. Consequently, applicants are encouraged to discuss financial assistance possibilities with their pastor and church leadership (cf. Matching Funds Scholarships below).

God Provides Where He Guides

That’s what the Word of God declares. And that’s what our graduates say as well. Senior surveys indicate that the majority complete their ministry preparation without any seminary-incurred debt. They didn’t presume upon God; they sensed His call and then responded in obedience. With much prayer and a willingness to work hard, God provided for them—sometimes through gifts, sometimes through employment. But He was true to His promise, and He’ll do the same for you. Missionary statesman, Hudson Taylor, was right when he said: “God’s work done in God’s way will never lack God’s supply!” You can count on it.
